Fansipan is located in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, south-west of Sapa, Lao Cai Province. It is the highest mountain in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range with altitude 3.143m. This is a natural museum that hidden a vegetation with many endemic species.

At the foot of the mountain are tropical trees such as jackfruit trees with relatively dense that made the name Coc Leu, San Coc of those areas ... From here to a height of 700m is the tropical belt ties of dense forest, vines. From above 700m the plants as Pomu , there're many very huge trees, about 50-60m high, several hundred years old, it need three or four people to hold around the tree.
The dense conifer always soggy because of a higher altitude, it has more rain. Some time, it was raining in the Fansipan throughout the months. Mixed with coniferous forests were the azalea flowers, orchids, brilliant orioles. Almost four seasons, the Sa Pa are steeped in the colorful rare flowers. Particularly azalea have four kinds with two dozen different species. There are places which rhododendron flower bloom all over the mountain forest.
Vietnam has 111 kind and 643 species of orchids, Fansipan owns up to 330 species. At the altitude of 2.400m, the wind, clouds mixed with trees, sometimes spreading through the air, just like walking in clouds. From the altitude of 2.800m, the clouds suddenly disappear, the sky clear, blue. The wind were blowing, which made the vegetation must stuck into the rock.

On the point at the altidude of 2.963m, a landmark was made in 1905 by the French when they conquered the peak. At the higher altitude, there's a huge rock blocks, are lied on the smaller rock like a table. It's the Fansipan peak! Local language called "Hua-si-pan", meaning that large rocks are huge wanderous. Fansipan peak is structured by such rocks.
Formerly from Sapa to the top of Fansipan and back took about 5-6 days. Currently the total time of climbing only 3 days, 2 days, or even 1 day for who has good health and fluently of conquering the moutain.
Tthe most popular route tourists takes three days. On the first morning, arrive to Sapa by car from the ranger station on Tram Ton Pass. Start climbing trip there, going through the mountains, travelers will stop in a campsite at the altitude of 1.900m near by a stream. They will camp, cook and spend the night here.
On the 2nd day, at the altitude of 1.900m, they will climb to the Fansipan peak at 3.143m altitude, lunch break on peak. This is the hardest part of the route. Then back to camp site at 1.900m altidute and spend a night. On the 3rd day, from the camp, where go back to Sapa in a different way. There will be bus transportation for travelers at the foot of the mountain to Sapa. A regulation for climbing here is not litter in the forest, all will be brought out and burned.
Each climbing team has at least two mountain guides. On the 2nd day, when travelers to the top of Fansipan, one of them will stay in the camp for cooking. Near the top of the mountain, traveler can colect bamboo shoes for meal. Cooking is also very difficult, travelers must go look for firewood, making the kitchen. It's generally rain at night and the temperature dropped very low.
Appropriate time for climbing Fansipan is from September to March every year. But the route to Fansipan is the most beautiful in late February, when the mountain flowers start blooming.
